Don Ranna and a group of members of the Electrical Association of New Orleans first started the New Orleans Electrical Association Fishing Tournament in 1978. The small group of members met at Battistella’s Marina in Empire, LA for a one-day fishing trip. From 2002 through 2019, the NOEA Fishing Tournament’s headquarters was the Sand Dollar Marina in Grand Isle, LA. Today, the Tournament’s home is the Bridge Side Marina in Grand Isle, LA. Fishing is limited to rod and reel anywhere in South Louisiana waters. Since 1978 the Tournament has grown into the most attended event of the Electrical Association of New Orleans catering to 250 – 300 attendees.

The Electrical Association of New Orleans consists of Electrical Distributors, Electrical Contractors, Manufacturers and Manufacturers Representatives, Electrical Engineers, Electrical Inspectors, Entergy Employees, and Associate Members in the New Orleans metropolitan area.  The objective of this event is to promote camaraderie and friendship between its members while having a good time participating in a popular Louisiana Sport.  The event is not open to the general public, however knowing someone that is a member of the Electrical Association is all that is generally needed to participate.

The secret to the success of the two-day Fishing Tournament is the hard work of the Fishing Tournament Committee and the generosity of all the many companies that sponsor the event each year. Even though the registration fee for the participants is next to nothing, the Sponsors make it possible to afford all that is provided. Included in the small entrance fee is an all you can eat catfish fish fry including sides and condiments for 2 days, beer and soft drinks, and $1,200+ in the Parade of Prizes given away the last day. Individualized award plaques are given to the fisherman with the largest fish that place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the 24 official fish categories. The award plaques are given out the last day of the tournament.
